Robotics Club
Grades 4-5
Jennifer Crockett - crockjen100@wcschools.com
West Elementary currently holds the only elementary robotics club in the district! While in Robotics Club, students get to participate in many exciting activities, including:
Hands-On Building: Students often use kits to build robots. These kits usually include various parts like motors, sensors, and controllers, and they come with instructions to guide students through creating their own robots.
Basic Programming: Kids learn how to program their robots to perform tasks. This programming is usually done using simple, child-friendly software or visual programming languages that allow students to drag and drop commands rather than writing code.
Problem Solving: Through challenges and projects, students apply what they’ve learned to solve problems or complete tasks. For example, they might design a robot to navigate a maze or perform certain actions in response to different sensors.
Teamwork: Robotics clubs often encourage collaboration. Students work together in teams to build and program their robots, which helps them develop teamwork and communication skills.
Creativity and Innovation: Kids are encouraged to be creative and think outside the box. They might come up with their own robot designs or ways to improve the performance of their creations.
Competitions: Our Robotics Club participates in local, regional, and state competitions where they can showcase their robots and skills.

Students are invited to join Beta Club upon maintaining AB Honor Roll as well as earning high achievement scores on iReady and TNReady. Teacher recommendations are required for student applications. Beta promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character service, and leadership among 4th and 5th grade students. There is a membership fee and financial requirements for membership.
Join these programs to help our school!
West Elementary participates in various programs that help us get money and items for our school. The best part of these programs…they are FREE! Ask your neighbors, family, and friends to participate and help us make a difference!
Box Tops
These are the small pink “coupons” on various Pillsbury, General Mills, Ziploc, Avery, Betty Crocker, Progresso, etc. products. Each “coupon” is worth 10 cents. Last year West received over $1,500 from Box Top money. Box Tops have an expiration code, so don’t hold onto to them too long before sending them in.
Publix Partners
Pick up a key fob in the office. When you shop at Publix, give the cashier your card and Publix will donate a portion of what you spend back to West. West received over $1,200 in the past year from Publix.
Kroger Community Rewards
Go to https://www.kroger.com/communityrewards, sign up and register your Kroger card.
Kroger will donate a portion of what we spend back to West. It's that easy!
Recycling programs:
- Soda Tabs are donated to the Ronald MacDonald House.
- Cell Phones are redeemed for cash for our school.
- Printer ink cartridges are redeemed for cash for our school
- Crayola's Colorcycle Program: Any marker (highlighters, dry erase, Sharpie), any brand, can be recycled for fuel! Just send those dried up markers in and we can ship them cost free back to Crayola. One pack of markers can produce enough fuel to brew a pot of coffee or fry an egg!
