Welcome to the Counselor's Corner!

Welcome to our school counseling page! As your School Counselor, my goal is to support the academic, social-emotional, and career development of every student from Kindergarten through 5th grade. In alignment with the Tennessee School Counseling Standards, our program is proactive, collaborative, and deeply integrated into our school's unique positive culture.

The Three Domains of Student Success

Our program's curriculum is aligned with the Tennessee State Board of Education Standards, focusing on three developmental areas:

  • Social & Emotional Development: Managing feelings, conflict resolution, building healthy friendships, and practicing empathy.

  • Academic Development: Developing strong study habits, goal setting, time management, and building a growth mindset.

  • College & Career Readiness: Exploring personal strengths and interests, and discovering how elementary school habits prepare us for future careers.

How the School Counselor Deliver Services

Our program strives to dedicate most of our time to direct and indirect services to ensure every student receives proactive, developmental support.

  • Classroom Lessons (K-5): Interactive, engaging lessons taught in every classroom focusing on character education, safety, and social-emotional skills.

  • Small Group Counseling: Short-term, small-group sessions for students experiencing shared challenges (e.g., changing families, friendship skills, grief, or anxiety).

  • Individual Counseling: Brief, goal-oriented sessions to help students manage immediate challenges and get back to learning. School counselors cannot provide ongoing or long-term therapeutic counseling, but can provide referrals and resources to families as-needed.

  • Consultation & Collaboration: Partnering with parents, teachers, and administrators to build a strong support system for your child. This includes managing Support Team (S-Team) referrals and 504 plans.

🔒 Confidentiality Guidelines

Trust is central to a successful counseling relationship. What a student shares with the school counselor remains confidential, except in circumstances where a student’s safety is at risk.

Under ethical and professional guidelines, a counselor must break confidentiality if:

  1. Someone is hurting the student.

  2. The student plans to hurt themselves.

  3. The student plans to hurt someone else.

  4. The student knows of a safety concern.

  5. The student requests a gender identity accommodation.
